I'ts "miau" in German/"Austrian" too. Officially, that is. Our cat Kiwi actually pronounces it more like "miiiiiiiiiiää!!!". (Maybe she's got foreign ancestors)
I like mrkgnaow, which is how James Joyce describes a cat's miaow in Ulysses. Actually, it might be mrkgnao, but I like the w. It's not exactly miaow in another language, but could suit an Irish cat, maybe?

Yes, a French cat says MIAOU. A nickname for cats in French is Minou, which is ever so lovely!!!
